HarborOne Bank will award $100,000 in scholarships to 20 college-bound students

HarborOne seeks applicants for annual ONECommunity College Scholarship program to honor young leaders in local communities

HarborOne Bank will renew its commitment to higher education by awarding 20 college scholarships of $5,000 each to deserving high school seniors who embody a commitment to community and academic excellence.

Through the ONECommunity Scholarship Program, HarborOne Bank has pledged to commit $1 million by 2025 to provide college scholarships to exceptional students.

“HarborOne Bank is dedicated to helping outstanding students from across the region to reach great heights,” said HarborOne Bank President and CEO James W. Blake. “We’re excited to bring back the ONECommunity scholarship program because we believe in the power of education to transform lives and fuel future success. We’re looking forward assisting families to help reduce the financial burden of pursuing higher education.”
HarborOne Bank expanded its college scholarship program in 2016, raising its annual college scholarship fund from $10,000 per year to $100,000 and its individual award from $1,000 per student to $5,000. Over the past twelve years, HarborOne Bank has provided more than $200,000 in scholarships to exceptional students from throughout southeastern Massachusetts.

The online application will be available on Monday, February 6, 2017. Recipients will be chosen from a competitive pool of applicants by a committee of HarborOne Bank employee volunteers. Committee members base their decisions on a number of factors, including students’ academic transcript, level of participation in community and school activities, letter of recommendation, awards and recognition received, and personal essays.

The scholarships are one-year awards to students attending accredited two- or four-year colleges or university.

Eligible candidates include high school seniors whose immediate family has an active account at HarborOne Bank opened by March 31, 2017.

High school students entering their freshman year of college in September will have until Friday, March 31, 2017 to apply for a scholarship.
