HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island Awards $32,500 in Grants

HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island announced today that nine non-profit organizations in the greater Providence area will receive financial support in their important work assisting children and families.

“The HarborOne Foundation is dedicated to helping groups like these who improve the lives of children and families, helping to give Rhode Island a much stronger future,” said James Blake, CEO of HarborOne Bank. “We have been warmly welcomed into the Rhode Island community, and the Foundation is one way that we can help that community and the people and organizations in it to thrive.”

The HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island’s mission is to strengthen and empower individuals and families by investing in non-profit organizations that create positive and lasting change across Rhode Island. The Foundation focuses its support on organizations that provide educational opportunities, create access to safe and affordable housing and deliver basic human services to our most vulnerable citizens.

“It is an honor to be able to help organizations that make such an amazing impact in our community and positively affect so many lives,” said HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island President William White.

Grant recipients included:

Adoption Rhode Island received a $2,500 grant to support the Succeed! Program which provides individualized support to children and teens to ensure academic progress throughout elementary and middle school, obtain the credits they need to graduate from high school, and have a concrete plan to go on to college or other postsecondary option of their choice.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island received a $1,000 grant to support the emergency assistance fund that provides essentials to families in need.

NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley received a $5,000 grant that will help provide foreclosure counselling support to over 60 Rhode Island families. This work ultimately reduces family hardship, increases stability, and provides comforting guidance.

Olneyville Housing Corp/One Neighborhood Builders received a $5,000 grant that will help support the development of the Sheridan Small Homes which is a cluster of five community centered small homes that are affordable, energy efficient, durable and sustainable.

Pawtucket School Department received a $4,000 grant to support the Financially Fit Families Program which provides personal, professional, long-term financial coaching through the Capital Good Fund.

Sojourner House Inc. received a $5,000 grant that will help support the Rapid Re-Housing Program which helps homeless victims of abuse receive rental assistance and supportive services.

The Miriam Hospital Foundation received a $3,000 grant that will help support the Community Investment Grants Program which distributes annual awards with the intent to improve the quality of life of its neighbors.

West Elmwood Housing received a $5,000 grant to support the home buying and financial literacy programs which helps empower residents of the community with education that will ensure both financial and housing stability.

Young Voices received a $2,000 grant to support youth from low-income communities in Providence and Newport to become community leaders and highly successful adults with the skills to excel in college and the workplace.
