HarborOne Bank Hosts 2023 Small Business Pitch Contest
Registration open through August 31 for small business entrepreneurs. Top prize is $10,000 to develop and grow a product or service business.

(Brockton, MA) – July 10, 2023 – HarborOne Bank today announced the kick-off of its Eighth Annual Small Business Pitch Contest to support the development of small businesses in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Registration and entries are open through August 31 to compete for a top prize of $10,000 from HarborOne to help a local small business accelerate their growth. In addition to providing a business overview, financials, and other information such as customer demographics and projected job creation, entrants must answer the following questions:

  • How would you use $10,000 to grow your business?
  • What types of challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
  • What piece of advice would you give to an entrepreneur looking to start their own business?
“HarborOne’s annual Small Business Pitch Contest is a terrific platform to provide visibility and financial support to dynamic, growing small businesses, it has also become a regional celebration of entrepreneurship,” said Joseph Casey, President and CEO of HarborOne Bank. “The energy, drive and creativity these businesses bring to their pitches is truly impressive.”

A select panel of business experts will screen the initial entries and choose up to eight applicants to pitch their ideas. Applicants will be notified no later than September 12, 2023. Presentations are limited to five minutes and finalists also take part in a Q &A with the judging panel. The committee will announce the winner at HarborOne Bank’s Mansfield Banking Center on September 28, 2023.

Last year, first place and the $10,000 prize went to Mike and Matt Alsksninis, owners of Alskinny Brothers Health Foods in Quincy, MA. The brothers created a granola that was not only transparent, super healthy, and tasted great, but also served a purpose for the “everyday athlete.”  They were awarded the top prize for their well-thought-out business and marketing plan as well as potential opportunities in the health food space. In 2021 first place went to Azure Cygler, owner of Rhody Wild Sea Gardens in Narragansett, RI, who is “growing kelp for climate change.”  And in 2020 the contest winners were sisters Mary Lattouf and Nada Lattouf of Lulu Green CafĂ© Bakery Juice Bar of South Boston. Lulu Green creates all-natural vegetarian organic food and cold pressed juices with vibrant flavors.
