Protect Yourself from Tech Support Scams

At HarborOne, we want to keep you informed about the latest schemes from cyber criminals so you can keep your information and accounts safe. When cybersecurity company CrowdStrike made news recently, scammers used it as an opportunity to exploit the company's name to deceive individuals into sharing private information or paying for unnecessary repair services or software updates.

If someone reaches out to you via phone, text, email or pop-up message claiming to be from CrowdStrike or any technology support company, do not provide personal or payment information, login credentials, or financial details. Remember:

  • Legitimate tech companies are not likely to contact you to inform you of an issue with your device. Be wary of unsolicited communications claiming to be from “tech support.”
  • Do not allow remote access to your computer unless you have initiated the contact and are certain you are dealing with an authentic tech support company.
  • Never provide personal information, such as passwords or financial details, or pay someone claiming to be from tech support.

If you suspect you have been targeted by a tech support scam, report it to the Federal Trade Commission or the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. For more information about keeping your information safe, check out our Privacy and Security Page.
