(Brockton, MA) – June 14, 2021 – HarborOne Bank announced today it has awarded 20 high school seniors college scholarships totaling $100,000 through its ONECommunity Scholarship Program, which recognizes a commitment to academic excellence and to the community. Each of these hard-working, high-achieving high school seniors received a $5,000 scholarship to help them with the costs of their prospective schools.
“These students have already proven through their high school careers that they are hard workers and they deserve our support for their next level of education,” said James W. Blake, CEO of HarborOne Bank. “These students will be a force in our communities as they succeed through life and we are honored to have the opportunity to help these students through this process.”
HarborOne Bank’s 2021 awards are part of a continuing commitment the bank made in 2016 to assist with college affordability and invest in educational opportunities that help fuel future success. The businesses and families of the region require an educated workforce to continue to thrive. HarborOne Bank has pledged to award $1 million over a 10-year period to provide hardworking and deserving students college scholarships, the largest single scholarship program by any bank in the state. Over the last 15 years, HarborOne Bank has provided more than $700,000 in scholarships to extraordinary students throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
A committee of HarborOne Bank volunteers chose scholarship recipients from a highly competitive pool applicants from more than 60 communities. The awards are based on the applicants’ proven commitment to community and academic excellence. Committee members based their decisions on several factors, including personal essays, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, awards and recognitions and level of participation in community and school activities. Eligible candidates include all high school seniors whose immediate family has an active deposit account, including checking, savings, CD, money market or IRA, at HarborOne Bank.
