HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island Awards Grant to College Crusade

(Warwick, RI) – July 22, 2021 – The HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island recently awarded a grant to College Crusade to support the College Crusade’s comprehensive college access and success program, which serves 4,200 low-income and first-generation students every year. College Crusade is one of the 12 are organizations to receive a total of $85,000 in grants from the HarborOne Foundation Rhode Island. Year to date, the Foundation has invested over $220,000 to benefit individuals and families across Rhode Island.

The other grantees include:

MENTOR Rhode Island received a $22,500 grant to support the operation and reinvigoration of its 7 direct-service mentoring programs post COVID pandemic.

College Crusade of Rhode Island received a $10,000 grant to support the College Crusade’s comprehensive college access and success program, which serves 4,200 low-income and first-generation students every year.

Festival Ballet Providence received a $10,000 grant to support Derrick Jerrell Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides tuition assistance for promising dance students of color with a mission to expand diversity within the classical and modern dance community.

Year Up Rhode Island received a $10,000 grant to support the workforce development program which prepares young adults aged 18-24 for entry-level middle-skilled roles with top employers in RI.

Crossroads Rhode Island received a $5,000 grant that will help provide supportive services to the residents of Crossroads’ Harold Lewis House –a supportive residence, which houses at any single time 14 chronic and high-acuity elderly, and veteran formerly homeless individuals.

Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center received a $5,000 grant that will help to maintain the crisis counseling and support group program that services individuals affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.

Shri Service Corps received a $5,000 grant to support their Yoga Outreach Program and the Student Task Force which was created in response to COVID-19, to support students and agencies access virtual classes, learn new technology and break the technology gap experienced by many low to moderate income individuals.

Sojourner House Inc. received a $5,000 grant that will help to provide crisis response and supportive services to victims of abuse in Rhode Island.

The Providence Center received a $5,000 grant that will help their COVID-19 Emergency Fund meet the urgent need for mental health and substance use services to the over 850 children and adults experiencing psychiatric crisis throughout the state of Rhode Island as a result of the pandemic.

FirstWorks received a $2,500 grant to support FirstWorks Education Program which aims to level the playing field for 5,000+ under-resourced RI students by tethering arts to academics such as science and literacy.

Mount Hope Learning Center received a $2,500 grant to help provide program and operating support for their cornerstone educational support programs that serve 100-150 students in grades K through 5th grade at Martin Luther King Elementary School and grades 6 - 8th at Nathan Bishop Middle School.

Read to Succeed received a $2,500 grant to support the Summer Reading Program. This innovative program helps keep South Providence's low-income students from falling behind and encourages these students, through scholarships, to focus on attending college.
